Abstract

Kamala is an important clinical condition described in Ayurveda and is predominantly associated with Pitta Dosha vitiation and involvement of Yakrit (liver). It is characterized by yellowish discoloration of the eyes, skin, nails and urine, along with clinical manifestations such as Aruchi, Avipaka, Daha, Daurbalya, vomiting and abdominal pain. The clinical presentation of Kamala closely correlates with jaundice in modern medicine. Ayurveda emphasizes Nidana Parivarjana, Shodhana and Shamana Chikitsa for the management of Kamala. The present study was undertaken to evaluate and compare the efficacy of Hapushadi Churna, Phalatrikadi Kwath Vati and their combined administration in the management of Kamala with special reference to jaundice.
